Come Diving with the Bass Strait Aquatic Club

The Bass Strait Aquatic Club (BSAC) is branch number 2396 of the prestigious British Sub-Aqua Club, the biggest dive club in the world. We are an independent, non profit dive club based in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula. We Dive Locally the wrecks, reefs, walls and piers of Bass Strait, Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay near Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, all year round.

If you're Already Certified you can just Join the Club and come diving with us. Or if you enjoy the challenge of enhancing your diving skills, you can cross over to the British Sub-Aqua Club certification scheme and progress through a Framework of Qualifications, do some Advanced Diving courses and/or join our Instructor Training Programme.

Interested in becoming a scuba diver? With the Bass Strait Aquatic Club you can do a Try-Dive or you can Learn to Scuba Dive with us.

Whatever your experience, if you want the highest standards of training while enjoying great diving in good company, then Join the Club and experience why the Bass Strait Aquatic Club is for you. To apply, please download and complete a BSAC Membership Form.

The Bass Strait Aquatic Club meets with Melbsac for drinks and to take the p'iss out of each other, on the 4th Tuesday of each month (see Calender), at Bells Hotel, 157 Moray Street, Sth. Melbourne, from 7.30 pm (melbsac arrive at 7pm to have their committee meeting..).

The Bass Strait Aquatic Club holds a monthly club dive weekend (see Calender and Forum for details), where club training and a further social event is held.

The Bass Strait Aquatic Club organises a monthly post work, shore / night dive. See Forum for details.

Outside of this, we're always out diving somewhere, so just look out for the club logo on people's tanks and clothing, and just come say hello.

Police Search and Rescue Site Visit Wed 3rd Feb

Social and Event News VSAG have organised a visit to the Victorian Police Search and Rescue Squad in Williamstown and have extended an invite to BSAC club members.

There will be a slide presentation as well as showing old and new dive gear. Details are below:

Next Club Meeting - Tuesday 15th December

Club Meetings Dear All,

Please note that the December 2009 joint club get together at Bells Hotel south melbourne, has been brought forward to Tuesday 15th December.

As this will be the last one before Christmas and the New Year, we would love to see everyone attend.

In addition, as we will have a BSAC guest member over from the UK who works for the Met office, we will be having a brief presentation on “Forecasting and understanding the Weather” Australia centric.

Please express in advance if you have any particular questions you would like to ask, so that they can come prepared

Sunday December 13th - Club Dive Day

Dive Days Hev and Michael are organising the next one, at the moment it is:

Diving with Scuttlebutt - inside the bay

7:30 pickup Queenscliff
7:45 pickup Portsea
8:00 drift dive through kelp beds.
9:30 back to Portsea for fills
10:30 depart Portsea
10:54 dive Spec reef or Captn Nitros (subject to shipping and someone finding the marks )
12:30 back to Portsea
1:00 BBQ lunch Portsea (some food will be provided by club ie bread and snags, but members are encouraged to contribute)


3:30 ferry service for those that need a lift back to Queenscliff

Dive Days DAN Asia-Pacific invites you to attend this very special one-day only 'Diving Safety Seminar' being held in conjunction with The Alfred Hyperbaric Service.

Where: Alfred Hospital, Melbourne

VARS - HMAS Canberra Sinking Update

Community News Latest News on the Scuttling from VARS:

Due to continued unsettled weather the ex HMAS Canberra FFG-02 will
not be sunk before Wednesday, 30 September 2009. A meeting to review
the forecast weather conditions and the possibility for the scuttling
to go ahead sometime next week will take place on Monday, 28 September
2009.

Unfavourable weather conditions resulted in the previously scheduled
scuttling for Saturday, 12 September 2009 being cancelled. The
scuttling will be rescheduled to a date with a two-day window of
favourable weather conditions as soon as possible.
