Chairman![]() Heather Bertrand |
chairman@bsac.org.au
|
Heather got hooked on being under water in 1988 with a couple of try dives on the Great Barrier Reef. Followed up with FAUI Open Water and Advanced Open Water in 1989 and 1990 here in Melbourne. She has spent the time since then getting wet as much as possible in as many places as possible. Added tech qualifications in the last few years. Can't decide what sort of diving she likes best - just as happy in 3m water under a pier looking at the fishies as in 50m water looking at some serious rust. |

Diving Officer![]() Neil Richardson |
M. 0410 816 090 | divingofficer@bsac.org.au
|
Neil has been diving since 2003, initially qualifing as a BSAC Ocean diver. He moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2004 where he has since turned into a dive slut, obtaining mixed gas qualifications, cave rating, instructor ratings and become actively involved in the local diving community. Neil has logged circa 1000+dives in ranging conditions and environments, in lots of weird and wonderful locations around the world, and has learnt that one size does not fit all with regards gear, practice and skills. |

Treasurer/Membership Officer
Sarah Speight |
membership@bsac.org.au
|
Sarah first dived in 2005 in Egypt where she did two try dives in Hurghada and enjoyed them a great deal. However, she forgot about diving for a while, until early 2008 when she decided to get certified at a local shop. She likes all kinds of diving, but wrecks and cephalopods are her favourite things to see. She likes to get out on the weekend and at least once through the week for a midweek night dive to see the cephalopods come out of hiding, and is rarely seen in the water without her camera! |

Training Officer
Michael Mallis |
training@bsac.org.au
|
Since 1993 Michael has dived the warm tropical waters of northern Australia and Fiji even though he was born and bred in Melbourne, Victoria. Only in 2008 did he bother to dive locally; and found it a real eye opener. He thinks should have listened to his dive buddies years ago as now he hardly dives anywhere else and believes that some of the world’s best temperate (another word for cold) water diving is to be had right at his doorstep. Diving is a means to an end for Michael as he is primarily a photographer who can't get enough of it, photography that is. Already flooded and lost more cameras and dive equipment than he cares to think about. As an ex-Antarctic scientist/photographer expeditioner Michael’s next ambition is to return to the Antarctic someday to work and with any luck dive. |

Dive Day Organiser
Phil Watson |
M. 0418 519 325 | divedayorganiser@bsac.org.au
|
Phil has been snorkelling and freediving along the Victorian coastline since he was a teenager, which is a while ago now. He belatedly got himself scuba certified last year, and has hugely enjoyed revisiting all his old freediving sites and being able to stay down rather than popping back up to the surface. He is also very fond of wrecks and cephalopods, but not necessarily in that order. |
