The Bass Strait Aquatic Club (BSAC) usually plans shore and boat dives around Port Phillip Bay, Western Port Bay and outside of the heads in Bass Strait.
For boat dives, we mostly use the services of commercial charter operators. However, we also have a growing number of the private boats of club members available to dive from as well.
Club dive days are typically organised each Saturday and/or Sunday. We do an unhurried morning dive, then find somewhere quiet and sunny to rest for lunch, and follow up with a second dive in the afternoon. Some members often do a shore dive to finish off the day.
But not all dive days are boat dives. We have plenty of members who like nothing better than to do a pier or shore dive. Night dives are also popular. So all are included in our Diving Calendar.
What Sort of Dives
Most club members are enthusiastic about a wide variety of diving. Plus we have members at all levels from those in training for their Ocean Diver certification, through to people doing serious deep and advanced technical diving. But most are somewhere in between.
Thus the dive days in our Diving Calendar include:
- Relaxing shore/pier dives
- Night dives — shore, pier or boat
- Reef drift dives
- Scallop, abalone and cray dives
- Wall dives
- Wreck dives
- Training dives
- Underwater photography dives
- Technical dives
- Advanced decompression dives
- and much, much more...
Something for everyone at all levels of experience!
Weekend Trips
On most long weekends, we typically have dive trips to other Victorian locations such as Phillip Island, Wilsons Promotory, Barwon Heads etc.
Members Diving Together
As well, many members of the club dive with each other when they just want to do something to get wet, or something different to what is scheduled in the club Diving Calendar. These are often mid-week and/or evenning shore dives. And, provided they notify our club Diving Officer and get his approval in time, their BSAC insurance cover still applies!
The Bass Strait Aquatic Club is one of the most active dive clubs in the Mornington Peninsula area.
